Oh boy…
Unless you live under a rock, you’re probably well aware of Jason Aldean’s song, “Try That In A Small Town,” and the controversy that surrounded it.
The song, written by Kelly Lovelace, Neil Thrasher, Tully Kennedy & Kurt Allison, was released back in May, and according to Aldean, “refers to the feeling of a community that I had growing up, where we took care of our neighbors, regardless of differences of background or belief. Because they were our neighbors, and that was above any differences.“
Despite the songs release in May, the backlash didn’t begin until the music video dropped in July. Although the video first premiered on CMT, the network caved and pulled the music video out of rotation with zero explanation. It became Aldean’s first No. 1 song on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, anyway.
Fast forward to now and the song is apparently still sparking protest.
This past Saturday, protestors gathered outside of Aldean’s concert in Tinley Park, Illinois, and according to Chicago Tribune, the protesters were from a communist belief group, Revolution Club Chicago.
Upwards of 20 members, the protestors attacked Jason Aldean directly, calling him a “fascist piece of sh**,” and burned multiple American flags.
“We will try that in a big city and we will try it right in front of your concert.”
Although no arrests were made, police did eventually come and break up the protest, alleging “unlawful assembly.“
“You are disturbing the public peace without the authority of the law. We are ordering you to immediately disperse. Failure to comply will result in chemical or less lethal munitions being deployed.”
