Jelly Roll Calls Out The Church For “Americanizing” Jesus, Says “He’s Not What Y’all Have Turned Him Into”

During his recent appearance on “FLAGRANT“, a podcast featuring comedian Andrew Schulz, Jelly Roll expressed great criticism of how the church is portraying Jesus Christ in this day and age.

Jelly Roll, who was just recently nominated for his first CMA Award for Male Artist of the Year, appeared on the comedy podcast to discuss his massive new album, “Whissitt Chapel“, his life story, and, clearly, a few controversial topics.

While getting into the nitty gritty about his life, Jelly Roll was asked about comments he had previously made elsewhere, saying the new album was partly about his reconciliation with the church. He, in a way, calls out the modern church. When asked to expand, he goes into many things he thinks are currently “wrong”. He predicts the church will suffer as a result of people “americanizing” Jesus and “weaponizing God.”

“Jesus and the church is gonna die, again, if they don’t find a way to portray him the way he was historically known to be.”

“Ya’ll have americanized Jesus and used him as a way of not only propaganda, but you’ve weaponized God… That was the opposite of who Jesus was.”

“The same people that you’re criticizing and going against are the only people that Jesus had a relationship with in the Bible. He did nothing but protect town-wh*res, prostitues, people in jail…”

Now, it may be easy for some people to go after Jelly Roll and shame him for his comments if they disagree, but it’s important to remember context. He made his opinions abundantly clear, but also showed some hope that people can do better.

Jelly Roll is a devout believer in the church and part of his criticism and much of his point on the podcast was clearly pointed toward giving more explanation on his inspiration for his latest album. He has been widely praised for his recent honesty about his troubled life and how his faith and friends have helped him find his way back.

While on the podcast, the guys further discuss how Jelly Roll is killing the game right now and highlight the impact he has had on the country music community. Jelly Roll continues to prove he has one of the most undeniably cool stories in Nashville. From dealing drugs and doing prison time to selling out big-time arena and amphitheater shows- what a journey he has been on. He just received the People’s Choice Country Award for Male Artist of the Year, a fan-voted ceremony, adding another accolade to his growing career.

Doesn’t believe in “Americanizing” Jesus ? Finds his faith in spirituality? Was he not in prison? Did he break the law? Mr Jelly Roll, we have laws, too, and they are called the 10 Commandments. These laws, when broken, must be repaired. Yes. Our God is a loving God but He demands and expects us to follow his rules…. In any land. Maybe you should share your beliefs with someone educated in religion, any religion. I do believe that you need some things clarified.

Really take the log out of your eye. Stop judging people. At least he is open and honest. People like you turn people away from Christ.

It just hurts my heart when I hear him take God’s name in vain. He has such a great platform to spread the good news of Jesus, and I pray he knows him. He can influence so many simply by his behavior and speech. I pray that his success continues and that God will continue to work on and in his life. ❤️

Somewhat replying to people above. How is he slandering Jesus? Slander and taking the Lord’s name is vein is using the loving and merciful name of YHWH and Jesus in a way that does not bring people into that love. Americanizing Jesus aka using Jesus to spread the idea that “America is God blessed” or that it is the holy nation is absolutely wrong. Using Jesus, God, the church of the like to push any political agenda (left, right or other) is also wrong. Presidential nominees and other politicians should not be invited to churches to speak and ask for votes. The people of 1 Samuel 16 asked for a king besides God and that cycle continues today. Jesus is our King. I don’t know a JellyRoll song tbh but I appreciate his words calling out the very dangerous and very heretical and very sinful “Christian nationalism” that is in sifting its way through Christians and churches much like “bad yeast” (Matthew 16:5-12). “”“Be careful,” Jesus said to them. “Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”“
      ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭16‬:‭6‬ ‭
