Arguably the fastest-rising artist in all of country, Dylan Gossett, is back with Bitter Winds, a highly-anticipated follow-up to his debut EP, No Better Time.

The Beneath Oak Trees singer teased the song back in November on TikTok and Instagram, which immediately prompted fans to beg for its release.

Two months later, Gossett took to Instagram to announce the song would be made available on February 2nd.

While discussing the track, Gossett said, “‘Bitter Winds’ is a song reflecting on these past few months and how time moves fast in general. Sometimes you wish it could just slow down, even though you know it never will.”

It’s no surprise that Gossett is feeling this way given that he has taken the genre by storm, garnering over five million monthly listeners on Spotify and over 115 global million streams on his top song Coal, which recently scored Gossett his first-ever Billboard Hot 100 entry. This coupled with the fact that he has recently signed with Miranda Lambert’s new label, Big Loud Texas, and Mercury Records, it’s not hard to see why the Texas singer/songwriter wrote this song.

As for the song itself, it continues Gossett’s hot streak. The track perfectly captures a feeling of conflict within the Coal singer while he grapples with all of the new-found success that he’s experienced over the past six months. You get the feeling that he is simultaneously grateful for the audience he has procured while also feeling haunted by past sins when he sings, “I’m singing songs, the family sings along with my feet buried in the gravel my heart buried in my wrongs.”

This sentiment is also echoed in the powerful chorus. The way Dylan sets up the theme of changing seasons with the winter coming in the first verse pays off incredibly well by the time the chorus hits. Gossett’s main strength as a songwriter is showcased in his storytelling here on Bitter Winds.

“Can this all just please slow down

    Another year is burning out

The sun don’t wait for someone like me

Who’s got more wants than needs

So I’ll sit still as seasons move on

Though I hate to watch em’ leave”

Upcoming dates on Gossett’s No Better Time tour include the following:

    • 3/18 // St. Paul, MN // Amsterdam Bar & Hall
    • 3/19 // Chicago, IL // Chop Shop
    • 3/22 // Cincinnati, OH // Top Cats
    • 3/24 // Washington, D.C. // The Atlantis
    • 3/26 // New York, NY // Mercury Lounge
    • 3/27 // New York, NY // Mercury Lounge
