Last night at the MLB Home Run Derby in Arlington, Texas, Ingrid Andress delivered what can only be described as one of the worst, if not the worst, performance of the National Anthem ever heard by a recording artist.
Quickly drawing comparisons to Fergie’s disastrous 2018 NBA All Star Game National Anthem, the internet was quick to pounce on the “More Hearts Than Mine” singer, crowning her rendition as the definitive worst.
While all this was going on, many (myself included) were wondering just what went wrong. It would be one thing if Andress was some nobody who was pulled off of the street for this performance, but she has experienced quite a bit of success since her debut in 2019.
From four Grammy nominations which includes Best New Artist in 2021 and a Best Country Album nod for Lady Like to earning multiple platinum certifications from the RIAA, it’s not like the 32-year-old singer is not without her accolades.
Today, she addressed the performance on Instagram, noting that she was drunk during the performance and that she is currently checking herself into rehab.
In the post, Andress said, “I’m not gonna bullsh*t y’all, I was drunk last night. I’m checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need. That was not me last night. I apologize to MLB, all the fans, and this country I love so much for that rendition. I’ll let y’all know how rehab is I hear it’s super fun. xo, Ingrid”
Many fellow country stars commented in support of Andress, including Flatland Cavalry, Carly Pearce, Meghan Patrick, Julia Michaels, Matt Stell, and Hillary Scott of Lady A.
Pearce showed love to the “Wishful Drinking” singer, commenting, “I’m sending you love, Ingrid. Being This open takes a lot. You’ve got this. Hang in there.”
Michaels also showed support, adding, “Love you girl. I’m sorry you’re going through this And I’m sorry the world can be so cruel. Here for you xx”
