The saga continues with the “lineman Mike” TikTok drama.
In case you’re not caught up on the internet gossip or have been confused at the influx of references to Kenny Chesney’s 2009 hit, “Out Last Night,” let me fill you in. A TikTok clip posted last weekend, on March 29, has now gone mega viral with over 24.6M views and 1.7M likes, which originally sought to find a lost stranger in a bar.
The user @mikalawest was attempting to use the power of social media to track down a man named “Mike” whom her friend connected with during their night out on the town in Huntsville, Alabama. Trying to rekindle the one night flame, she captioned the request, “SOS my friend met her soulmate last night in Huntsville Alabama after the lineman rodeo and we know nothing about him except his name is Mike and his friends kept calling him like the birds in finding nemo (Mike! Mike! Mike!).” In her words, “help us get Nemo home!”
Well, as fate would have it, Nemo already had a home, and sure enough, the video found its way to none other than Mike’s wife’s feed. The disappointed spouse, named Laura, commented underneath the original post, setting the record straight, “Hi! I’m Michael’s wife. He’s busy explaining this to our two children now.”
With the couple’s dirty laundry now completely aired out online and everybody and their mother tuning in on Mike’s sneaky post-rodeo night out, people are heavily invested. Likewise, the now-trending soundtrack behind this whole messy debacle is none other than Kenny Chesney’s party anthem chart-topping “Out Last Night.” 17 years later, the song is making its second resurgence with over 18.9K videos using the sound on TikTok alone, most weighing in on the “Mike the Lineman” situation.
Apparently, word of his now-viral song has also made its way to Chesney, who poked fun at the whole situation in a recent TikTok clip from a performance of the song during his current Las Vegas sphere residency. He simply captioned the nod, “Heard we went out last night.”
Of course, everyone was equally satisfied to see the country singer acknowledge the hilariously unfortunate situation, chiming in in the comments:
