Back on August 14, the People’s Choice Country Awards turned heads when they announced the nominees for this year’s ceremony. Instead of seeing the same dozen or so faces that you see every year at the ACM and CMA Awards, People’s Choice nominated outsiders such as Ole 60, Koe Wetzel and The Red Clay Strays, among others.
Today, they announced that none other than Miranda Lambert will received their coveted Country Icon Award which was won by the late Toby Keith last year at the inaugural ceremony. Lambert, who’s set to release her ninth studio album, Postcards From Texas, just weeks before the event, was described as having an “authentic, female-forward brand of country that has shaped the industry,” by the show’s team.
NBCUniversal Entertainment’s Jen Neal said, “A tour de force in country music for more than 20 years, Miranda Lambert’s groundbreaking albums continue to capture the hearts of fans around the world. We’re so excited to celebrate her career, fierce individualism and innovation in the industry with the Country Icon Award.”
Lambert’s People’s Choice Country Icon Award joins her laundry list of hardware that includes 35 ACM Awards, 14 CMA Awards and three Grammy wins.
The 2024 People’s Choice Awards, hosted by Shania Twain, will air live on NBC and Peacock on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 8 p.m. Fan-voting for the show is open now and will run through this Friday, Aug. 23. You can vote here.
