As more details about Morgan Wallen’s upcoming album emerge, the wait is becoming nearly unbearable— though for those counting, only 37 days left!
While Wallen hasn’t been very personally active on Twitter/X lately, he responded today to an exciting request from a fan. @PatrickThomes tweeted at him, asking “Please please PLEASE confirm ‘What I Want’ is a duet. You haven’t sung with any female artists on any of your first three albums, so PLEASE tell me this is the case,” followed by three prayer hand emojis for much-needed emphasis.
Wallen answered the fan’s prayers with a simple, “Indeed sir,” confirming that the track will indeed feature a female collaborator. This is huge news, especially considering that, as the fan pointed out, Wallen has never had a duet with a female artist on any of his previous albums, nor has he done collaborations outside of his own music.
Fans immediately began chiming in, sharing their excitement and speculating about who the female artist might be. Multiple responses included the names Megan Moroney and Ella Langley.
Another strong contender is Miranda Lambert, known for her extensive history of collaborations with male country artists like Dierks Bentley, Blake Shelton, and Keith Urban. Aside from co-writing Wallen’s 2022 single, “Thought You Should Know,” she’s also one of the openers for his upcoming “I’m The Problem” tour, which raised some eyebrows due to her already very prominent and successful career. If Lambert is the featured artist on “What I Want,” it could offer some more insight into her connection to the tour.
Though we haven’t heard the track yet, Wallen teased it during his March 29 SNL performance. As he performed, song titles flashed across the screen, including “What I Want,” which also displayed “Featuring” followed by a blurred-out name.
It’ll be exciting to hear this unique new project featuring Wallen’s voice alongside a female artist but nonetheless, this news will have me continuing to stalk his social media in case he decides to drop any other bombs in the following weeks. For now, it’s a waiting game until the album drops on May 16 and the tour kicks off on June 20.
