It’s safe to say Post Malone is officially in his country era.
Wrapping up day 1 of this year’s CMA Fest last night, Post Malone took the stage to perform a short six-song set. Beginning the set with his certified 2x diamond hit, “Sunflower,” Post followed it up with a performance of his current #1 country hit “I Had Some Help.”
He surprised fans afterward by bringing out none other than Blake Shelton to perform their unreleased duet, seemingly titled “Somebody Pour Me a Drink,” which was teased by Post back on May 23 on Instagram.
Much like “I Had Some Help,” “Somebody Pour Me a Drink” sounds like another crowd-pleasing hit for Post. It might not have the classic country sound that “Never Love You Again,” which debuted at the ACMs, has, but there’s no denying just how catchy and radio-friendly it is.
If there’s one thing that’s clear after hearing “I Had Some Help,” “Never Love You Again” and now “Somebody Pour Me a Drink,” it’s that Post is going to be covering a lot of ground sonically on this country album. It’s been well-documented that he likes to explore a multitude of different sounds within albums such as Hollywood’s Bleeding where he delivered traditional rap, pop, alternative and even metal tracks on the album. This up-coming country record seems to be no different. I’d expect Post to deliver some pop, traditional and even bluegrass-inspired songs throughout, but for now, we’ll just have to wait and see.
There is currently no release date set for the track.
