Post Malone Says “Brokenheartsville” by Joe Nichols Is the “Greatest Country Song Ever Written”

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you should be well aware of Post Malone’s massive breakthrough into country music over the last year. From his ever-growing list of covers that pay homage to the greats before him, to his plethora of collaborations on his debut country record, “F-1 Trillion,” there is absolutely no denying that the “I Fall Apart” singer has a deep love and respect for the genre.

Of course, the biggest song off of “F-1 Trillion” was his pop-infused collaboration with Morgan Wallen on “I Had Some Help,” but Post has repeatedly shown, if anything, that he grew up on country and didn’t decide to venture off into the genre at its peak popularity to make a quick buck. And that’s been overwhelmingly apparent when forgotten artists such as Sara Evans, Gretchen Wilson, and you guessed it, Joe Nichols have all been included at Post’s shows.

Back in July, Post Malone surprised his fans in attendance at the Marathon Music Works in Nashville when he brought out Nichols for a performance of his 2002 #1 hit, “Brokenheartsville.” (You can watch that here.)

Fast forward to now, and Joe Nichols has a brand new album on the horizon titled, “Honky Tonks And Country Songs.” With the record due everywhere on October 25th, Nichols has been making radio appearances again, and just last week he stopped by Big D and Bubba’s radio show where he told an interesting story about his first encounter with ole Posty.

“I was in my hotel room, ironing my clothes, and they said, ‘a weird thing happened, Post Malone is trying to get a hold of you.'”

“It was really crazy, a huge star like him was super excited for a guy like me to be on stage with him.” Joe then reveals to the radio hosts that Post told him, ”I think this is the greatest country song ever written.”

(“Brokenheartsville” was written by Donny Kees, Blake Mevis, Randy Boudreaux, and Clint Daniels.)

Is “Brokenheartsville” top five or ten? No way. Is it top 50? Maybe. Either way, it’s good to see the younger generation finding out about this absolute BANGER of a song and it once again getting the credit it so rightly deserves. Check out the interview clip here:
