“I’ll tell it like it is, I never thought that this would last this long.”
On Friday, Randall King released his newest single, Hang of Hangin’ On, the latest release ahead of his upcoming third studio album. King teased the song on twitter early Thursday morning and confirmed the release on Instagram later in the day. Along with the new song, Randall also announced the title and release date for his new album “Into The Neon,” which is set to drop January 26th.
Randall has one of the most classic Texas country sounds around, and the new song is a strong representation of what his fans love about him. Hang of Hangin’ On shows off Randall’s softer side as he details the feeling of getting accustomed to, and feeling comfortable with, a new love.
The production is understated and keeps the attention on King’s crooning vocals, which is a good choice for the subject matter. His voice is plenty strong enough to carry the song without the need to muddy the sound with overproduction.
We get plenty of songs about fiery, passionate love (hell, Randall’s last single was about just that), but we don’t hear as much about how great it feels when a good thing sticks around and turns into something permanent. I like when artists explore deeper topics beyond a simple “I love you”, and this is definitely a new way of approaching a love song.
Randall has been a busy man of late. The new song comes just a month after his last release, Burns Like Her, dropped in September. Additionally, he released two new songs back in August, including the Alan Jackson cover,The One You’re Waiting On, which is confirmed to be on the new album.
King recently wrapped up touring with Jon Pardi on the European stint of his “Mr. Saturday Night” tour, and is back stateside with an aggressive tour schedule running through January.
