Riley Green has been nothing short of a force to be reckoned with in country music over the past year. Beyond the constant dating rumors that continue to swirl weekly, the “Worst Way” singer has firmly established himself as one of the premier acts in the genre. With 13.2 million monthly listeners on Spotify, six #1 hits on country radio and a fanbase that seemingly grows by the minute, Green is here to stay for a long while.
Back on June 19th, Green took his Damn Country Music Tour to Franklin, Tennessee, at a sold-out show at the FirstBank Ampitheather. The 36-year-old singer/songwriter delivered a set chalk full of past hits such as “Different Round Here,” “I Wish Grandpas Never Died,” “There Was This Girl” and his most recent #1, “Worst Way.” Additionally, he performed the unreleased, “My Way,” which was teased on social media back in March.
True to form throughout the tour, Green treated fans to a handful of covers. After performing Jamey Johnson’s 2009 ACM and CMA Song of the Year, “In Color,” the Alabama native continued his streak of honoring the late Toby Keith with back-to-back performances of “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” and “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American).”
Right before delivering the iconic “We’ll put a boot in your a**” lyric on the bridge, Green paused and scanned the crowd before locking eyes with an unexpected member of the audience: a baby. Seeing the child being raised up by her parents, Green told the crowd, “I gotta take a second. We got the most patriotic baby I’ve ever seen. Hold that baby up again.”
After Green told the crew to get a camera on the baby, the crowd began going wild, cheering before breaking out into a “U-S-A” chant in what can only be described as an unforgettable night for the parents.
You never really know what to expect at concerts these days. From a fan bringing their dog to a Tyler Childers concert back in April to Zach Bryan meeting another baby not once but twice recently, there’s always a good chance you’ll see something you’ve never seen.
