Country music’s pretty-in-pink, Cloud 9 princess might have just written the best bro-country parody song of the year.
Following the release of her third studio album on February 20, Megan Moroney has been on a hefty press tour promoting the project and giving fans some insight into the whole process behind the 15 new tracks. Her most recent appearance from March 10 on And The Writer Is with Ross Golan expanded on her backstory to fame and, of course, her experiences as a songwriter.
Throughout the conversation, Moroney gave a sneak peek into one of her most unique pre-writing brain busters that helps get the creative juices flowing, saying, “It’s almost like writing these stupid songs warms us up.” To which she then introduced the catchy yet out-of-character tune, “Beer Huntin’.”
Without question, the Georgia-native amps up the melody, singing Golan this hilarious song with the lyrics:
Beer huntin, beer huntin, beer huntin, beer. Shootin nothin, catchin me a buzz out here. Ain’t worried about the weather or the time of the year, everything i need in this cooler right here. No game warden gonna spoil our plans, only thing I’m killing is a couple of cans
In the oh so true words of Moroney, the song is “like so stupid, but like kind of a bop.” It’s one of those guilty pleasure parodies that is so hilariously stereotypical, yet you feel the undeniable pull to nod your head along with it.
While Moroney obviously would never release this track as a legitimate song, there’s some undeniable potential for her to be the next female country ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic. Shouting out her fellow songwriters who were the masterminds behind most of Cloud 9 and this beer-frenzy beat, she admitted through her giggles, “I don’t think that’s anybody’s vibe. We actually, we call ourselves the group Jimmy James, and we thought about releasing it under Jimmy James, and it’ll be our voices.”
The potential Jimmy James alias would consist of the vocals of Moroney, Mackenzie Carpenter, Micah Carpenter, and Ben Williams. Despite now foiling her plans to have this song released as an inside joke secret, Moroney still agreed with Golan’s plea that now is the time, riding off the chart-topping success of her album, that she can let loose and be a little experimental, confirming, “I think we might.”
Another song from the vault includes “Drunk On A Tractor,” which Moroney continued to give a mini-performance of the ballad, noting that Micah has his own rap verse reminiscent of Jason Aldean’s “Dirt Road Anthem.” While Moroney may see these silly tracks as a testament to the writing quartet’s chemistry and an opportunity to let loose before coming up with fav favorites like “Bells & Whistles” and “I Only Miss You,” I think there’s certainly some potential for these to be a hit for Moroney (aka new artist, Jimmy James).
As Golan notes these are the type of tracks that would do numbers at a concert, emphasizing, “they don’t not fit, they’re brilliant.” Which now has me picturing arenas filled with emo-cowgirl fans dressed in glittery outfits screaming along to “Beer Huntin'”. Consider this my official plea for Jimmy James to make an appearance at at least one of her upcoming shows on the 2026 Cloud 9 tour, hitting the road on May 29 in Columbus, Ohio. The “6 Months Later” singer has 43 worldwide dates of opportunities to bust this parody track out before wrapping up a packed summer on October 1 in Belfast, United Kingdom.
