I cannot tell a lie; unfortunately, I’m not an average daytime television watcher.
However, boy am I gonna miss seeing Kelly Clarkson’s Kellyoke segments pop up on my social media feeds. The American Idol season one winner turned mega-star is preparing to wrap up her self-titled talk show in just a week— and no, it’s not because Gen Zers like myself have killed regular television viewership (sorry, Kelly and NBC).
On the contrary, the “Since You Been Gone” singer’s show was quite the hit, and I’m sure the network is kickin’ its feet as we speak now that its final season is reaching its last episode on Tuesday, August 31. Earlier this year, Clarkson announced that she’d be stepping away from her seven-season run to prioritize her children and take a breather from the high-demand lifestyle that’s hosting a daily tv show.
In light of her sad departure, her social media team is honoring her final few days with a countdown of some of her best Kellyoke renditions and let me just say there is A LOT to choose from. The multi-Emmy award winning host has used her end of show karaoke segments to highlight quite a few of her favorite country hits over the years including Jo Dee Messina’s “Lesson In Leavin’,” CoJo’s “When It Comes To You” and her fellow soon to be Voice Coach Riley Green’s “Worst Way.”
Kickstarting their week of farewells though, they decided to rewind things all the way to her very first episode which aired way back on September 9, 2019. Introducing her show to the world, she decided to make her own little music video segment singing a cover of Dolly Parton’s iconic hit, “9 to 5.”
I truly don’t think she could’ve picked a better tune for the beginning soundtrack of her hit show. Not to mention, that song is incredibly hard to replicate and pull off as well as Dolly does.
But in true Clarkson fashion, she absolutely killed the rendition, which she sings while acting the song by tumbling out of bed and pouring herself a cup of ambition. She continues the song dressing in different occupational outfits and then taking the hit to her live audience taping set.
I’m excited to see whatever relics her social accounts have to showcase the rest of the week as the shows final airing is now just seven days away. And If you’ve never seen her incredible performance showcasing her unbeatable vocals check out the trip down memory lane below.
