Back in early September of 2023, Jimmy Buffett passed away surrounded by family and friends at the age of 76. TMZ reported that the cause of death was from a rare skin cancer, Merkel cell carcinoma, that Buffett was quietly diagnosed with four years prior.
A month after his death, Alan Jackson, Kenny Chesney and Zac Brown Band, (all artists who collaborated with Buffett in the past), paid tribute to the Brown Eyed Girl singer with a special performance at the CMA Awards, and of course, rainbow parrots and other tropical aesthetics decorated the stage in his honor.
As we reflect on his career and his frequent contributions to country music, what no better time than now to highlight a special collaboration between him and some of the best to ever do it.
Back in 2004, Jimmy Buffett released his twenty-fifth studio album, “License To Chill.” The record featured 16 tracks in total, including a cover of Hank Williams’ 1951 classic, “Hey Good Lookin’,” featuring Clint Black, George Strait, Kenny Chesney, Toby Keith and Alan Jackson.
Introduced by Shania Twain, the group performed the track at the 2004 CMA Awards in Nashville.
