King and Chief.
Takin’ ya’ll back to 2014, a time before Zach Bryan & Morgan Wallen were dominating Country music and back when the CMA Awards had over 14 million viewers, over double what they typically pull in today.
The year 2014 doesn’t seem that far away to a lot of us, but if you’re anything like me, realizing it’s 2024 doesn’t make you feel so, well..young.
Contrary to popular belief, we don’t have to go back to the 90’s or early 2000’s to find decent showings from the Country Music Association. Just go back 10 years ago when Eric Church had the pleasure of sharing the CMA stage with George Strait to perform the King’s 2003 single “Cowboys Like Us.”
The track was written by Bob DiPiero and Anthony Smith and was released in August 2003 as the second single from Strait’s twenty-second album, Honkytonkville. Cowboys Like Us went on to reach #2 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and is currently certified gold by the RIAA.
The duo also performed this at AT&T Stadium during George’s The Cowboy Rides Away Tour and neither of ’em get old watching.
Oh, and since we’re on the CMA topic, bring back Brad & Carrie as hosts. Sincerely, everyone.
