Throwback Thursday.
Back before Chris Stapleton was widely viewed as one of the greatest Country singers of all time, he was a songwriter in Nashville crankin’ out hits for other artists.
One of the songs that Chris co-wrote, alongside Casey Beathard and Rucker himself, was “Come Back Song,” the RIAA certified platinum lead single and No. 1 hit from Darius Rucker’s 2010 sophomore album, “Charleston, SC 1966.“
Darius has admitted in the past that he almost didn’t record the song after hearing the demo sang by Chris Stapleton. (I mean, can ya blame him?)
” I could never sing it like that! He kills that song. I could never open my mouth and sing it like that because it’s too great.’”
Regardless, the track found its rightful owner. Maybe I’m just saying that because it’s the version we’re all used to but it’s still one of Rucker’s most popular songs to date. Watch Stapleton perform it in 2013 at the Bing Lounge here:
