Luckiest dog ever?
Tyler Childers‘ performance at Kroger Field in Lexington, Kentucky, on Saturday night is already an early contender for concert of the year. The 21-song set treated the audience to fan-favorites such as “All Your’n,” “Lady May,” “Whitehouse Road” and “House Fire” to close the night.
Most notably, the Lexington performance gave us the first-ever live performance of Childers‘ infamous unreleased song, “Jersey Giant,” which has gained nothing short of a cult-following since it was initially written by the Kentucky native back in 2012.
Being covered by the likes of Evan Honer, Sam Barber, Elle King and Josiah and the Bonnevilles over the past three years, there’s been calls for Childers to record the song (or at least play it at concerts) for ages now. To say that the live performance of “Jersey Giant” was a dream come true for many would simply be an understatement.
The performance of “Jersey Giant” wasn’t the only memorable part of the night for fans, however. After closing the acoustic segment of the concert with “Follow You to Virgie,” Childers returned with his full band for with a cover of Hank Williams’ “Old Country Church” and “Can I Take My Hounds To Heaven?”
During “Can I Take My Hounds To Heaven?,” the title track of his fifth studio album, concert attendees noticed a fellow fan actually brought his dog to the concert. Without missing a beat the fan raised his dog up on his shoulders throughout the performance of the song.
It seems as if fellow concert attendees took notice of the dog, whose name was later revealed to be Patrick, throughout the night and began commenting on the owner, Bailey W. McAfee’s, TikTok video documenting the canine’s night at the show.

Between getting to see “Jersey Giant” for the first time live and being able to go to the concert itself, it’s safe to say that Saturday was a once-in-a-lifetime night for Patrick and Bailey. Hopefully we’ll see Pat at another show soon, this time rocking some headphones.
