The cover I didn’t know I needed.
Ever since Toby Keith passed away back in early February, celebrities and musicians from all genres and walks of life have spoken out, mourning the loss of the country music legend. From nearly everyone in the country music community (other than the Dixie Chicks), and even late night talk show host, Stephen Colbert, it seems as if Toby’s music touched the lives of many over the last three decades.
And although we all still love Toby’s 1993 classic, “Should’ve Been a Cowboy,” it’s hard not to roll your eyes when you see another artist choosing THAT song in particular to honor the country legend with. However, that doesn’t apply here to Koe Wetzel, as I’ve come to realize that the Texas rocker can sing just about anything and sing it WELL.
During a recent concert in California, Koe covered the big dog daddy’s first single and first-ever No. 1 hit, and although it won’t be featured on his forthcoming album, “9 Lives,” set to drop on July 19, when you have director Michael Herrick, sound engineer Kolbe Elston, and a mix/master from Josh Serrato, all you need is this bada** YouTube video.
Toby will be remembered as an American patriot, a charitable philanthropist, and an inspiration to many. His legacy will undoubtedly carry on through what is left behind of his storied career, marked by 21 albums and 20 number-one singles, as well as his dedicated support for children diagnosed with cancer, active-duty military personnel, and veterans.
