What say you?
Parker McCollum recently made an appearance on the Like a Farmer podcast, where he was asked who he thinks is at the top of country music right now.
While the Texas native acknowledged that his music is “different” and more “hip-hop based,” he unabashedly name-dropped East Tennessee artist, Morgan Wallen:
“I don’t think anybody ever catches Wallen. I know it’s a different kind of country. It’s a lot more hip-hop based….so if you really care to dissect it that much, which I don’t, I don’t really care what people call certain kinds of music.”
Parker then says all that matters is if the artist is believable and also throws Lainey Wilson’s name into the mix…
“If I believe it when they open their mouth and they sing it, If I believe ’em, like I believe Morgan when he sings those songs, I buy it. I believe Lainey Wilson when she sings, I believe her…You’re 100%, I get what you’re putting down and it’s not that way for everybody.”
Morgan is not only considered thee biggest artist in country right now, he’s also one of the biggest artists in all of music. Not only did the 30 year-old superstar have the most streamed song and the best-selling album of 2023, all-genre, his new collaboration with Post Malone on “I Had Some Help” just broke the all-time record for biggest streaming day for a country song in Spotify history with almost 14 million streams in one day.
Parker’s not doing so bad himself, as every single he’s sent to country radio thus far since 2020, has gone No. 1.
