It is safe to say that “Worst Way” singer Riley Green likes to stick to the country classics, sharing a cover of his “buddy” Clint Black‘s song “When I Said I Do” — which he sings alongside his wife: Lisa Hartman-Black — via TikTok on Saturday (Oct. 5).
Released in August of 1999 as the first single from Black’s album, D’lectrified, the song discusses the married couple’s love for one another, as well as their vow to stay together until the end of time.
“When I Said I Do” debuted at number 45 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart, becoming Black’s 13th and final number one single on that chart. It eventually peaked at number 31 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 as well, and it is one of only two chart singles for Hartman-Black.
Nevertheless, soulfully singing the tune in the TikTok video — all while integrating his signature country twang — Green strummed his guitar as he belted “When I Said I Do” behind a black and white filter, garnering a great deal of positive comments from country music lovers all across the globe:
“Love this song ❤️”
“🔥😍 love this Clint Black classic!”
Others took to the comment section to question whether or not Green posted this video as a tribute to his “You Look Like You Love Me” duet partner, Ella Langley, who he has sparked some relationship rumors with as of late:
“You’re singing this to Ella right?! 😍”
“Would love to him and Ella sing it together 🥹”
This TikTok cover came just a few weeks after Green took the stage at the 2024 Big Machine Music City Grand Prix to sing “When I Said I Do” alongside Lily Pearl Black, the daughter of Clint Black and Lisa Hartman-Black.
“Ms. Lily Black has become a good friend of mine recently… We’ve almost practiced the song together, and Mrs. Lisa Hartman Black and Mr. Clint Black are her mom and dad, so y’all may be familiar with them as well. I don’t know why I’m going to try this, but one of my favorite love songs… one of the best love songs ever written… We’re going to try a little bit of it, we’ll see,” Green said before the budding songstress took the stage.
To follow, the pair sang “You Look Like You Love Me” together, with Lily Pearl Black filling in for Langley.
