Why Do People Comment ‘Where Are The Bodies’ Underneath Garth Brooks Posts? The Internet Theory Explained

If you’re confused about why every single post about Garth Brooks looks like a forensic search forum, let me break down the internet’s long-running “Where Are the Bodies? theory for you.

For everyone who’s not chronically online or is under the age of 18 and just discovered who Garth Brooks is because the man still refuses to put his music on streaming…grab some popcorn and get cozy because “Friends in Low Places” has a wild conspiracy theory that fans can’t seem to shake— Myself included.

Brooks has been implementing a slow rollout of tour stops on his upcoming 2026 Blame It All On My Roots Arena tour. So far, the country hitmaker is kicking things off in Indianapolis, followed by weekends in Denver, Chicago, and the most recently announced Washington, D.C.

And without fail, there’s always a majority of comments that flood in on every. single. post asking, “Where are the bodies, Garth?” or joking, “Incoming missing people.”

So why does the internet seem to think Brook’s is a grave-digging, body-hiding, Ted Bundy-esque psychopath, you ask? Well, besides the fact that his oftentimes goofy, discomforting facial expressions just scream ‘serial killer’….we can thank comedian Tom Segura for the long-standing joke.

The Ohio-born stand-up comedian, writer, and actor has voiced his distaste for Brooks since way back in 2018, when Segura was joined by fellow comedian and his wife Christina P on their joint podcast Your Mom’s House. On the episode, the two started diving into Brooks’ upcoming tour announcement. Now, mind you, it was 2018, and Brooks had just taken the ‘massive’ leap of joining Facebook and hopping on the platform to post his first video, announcing the stadium show.

To be fair, the dimly lit, cringy vlog filmed from his hotel room is just too easy to make fun of. I can’t even put into words how awkward it is; you have to watch for yourself:

Rightfully so, Segura started making fun of the clip and made a quip that has since spurred the widespread “where are the bodies” joke into the massively popular phenomenon it is today. Discussing the Oklahoma singer’s long pause, Segura notes, “What he’s thinking about is all the bodies he’s got stacked in graves in his yard, for sure… He’s probably killed 200-300 people in his life.”

The two basically surmised that Garth is for sure a serial killer and has people buried across his backyard. After the podcast episode aired, people flooded Brooks’ comment sections with the new fan theory. And the comments haven’t stopped in the eight years since, thanks in part to Segura continuing to fuel the joke in his stand-up acts and videos.

Over the years, he’s posted many other podcast clips, including “What’s Wrong With Garth,” “Garth Brooks Sucks,” and “Where Are The Bodies Garth?” to name a few. His show has also spurred a number of other fan-favorite lines to reference in the comments, including “Touch my camera through the fence,” “I got a DUI,” and just “What?”

Segura’s never given a complete reason as to why he likes to tear Brooks to shreds and make him the bunt of the joke other than the fact that his over-all cringy, often times theatrical and just easy to make fun of persona is a prime target. Oh, and as for Brooks, who I think is still adapting to the modern world of technology as we speak…he’s never really shied away from the teasing… I guess his team just assumes all publicity is good publicity? They have, however, turned off the comment section on his accounts since recently posting his latest tour announcements.
