“High and lonesome, tall and strong…”
Wyatt Flores finished out his Life Lessons tour in style tonight in Asheville, North Carolina, bringing out fellow rising indie star, Sam Barber, for a killer rendition of Tyler Childers’ unreleased hit, “Jersey Giant.”
Before the show, Flores shared that he played fan-favorite, “Astronaut,” for the first time 11 months ago in Asheville. Even though he made the tweet, fans probably didn’t expect him and opener, Sam Barber, to pull out one of the most celebrated unreleased songs in indie country history.
For those unfamiliar with “Jersey Giant,” it is far and away the most popular unreleased Tyler Childers song to date. The most popular YouTube video of the track currently has 4.6 million views as of writing. Despite it’s exclusivity in Tyler Childers’ discography, it has been recorded by Elle King, Evan Honer and Josiah and the Bonnevilles, among others.
It seems as if Childers will never officially record the song, but it will live on as one of the best that the “In Your Love” singer has to offer. The fact that it has remained one of the most popular songs in Childers’ discography, despite its unreleased nature, not only shows how influential he is in the indie country scene but also how prolific of a songwriter he truly is.
Despite making waves due to the performance of “Jersey Giant,” this isn’t the first time that Barber and Flores have shared the stage together. The pair also took turns performing original music back in June of 2023 alongside Nolan Taylor during CMA Fest in Nashville, Tennessee.
