It’s a big day for Zach Top, who just scored his first-ever Number 1 song on country radio with “I Never Lie.”
According to chart insider Chris Owen, the track, which is the second single from his Cold Beer & Country Music album, has officially reached the top spot on the Mediabase Country chart. This milestone not only marks a major personal achievement for Top but also a historic moment for his label, Leo33, as it’s their very first Number 1 hit.
For those unfamiliar, the Mediabase charts track radio airplay across 180 U.S. and Canadian markets, making a Number 1 spot a true testament to nationwide popularity.
Co-written by Zach Top, Carson Chamberlain, and Tim Nichols, “I Never Lie” first gained traction on social media following the release of Top’s sophomore album back in November 2024. Its rising popularity led to its release as a single, following his debut radio hit “Sounds Like A Radio.”
The track is the epitome of Top’s beloved neo-traditional country sound and is also a certified earworm. Any fan of country music will know that upon hearing the song for the first time, you’ll soon find yourself walking around the house belting “I sleep like a baby.”
While songs by emerging artists often take longer to rise on the radio charts, this achievement is particularly impressive. Just last week, the top three spots were held by Blake Shelton’s “Texas,” Morgan Wallen’s “I’m the Problem,” and Jason Aldean’s “Whiskey Drink,” with Top close behind at Number 4. Now, he’s claimed the top position. The song is also climbing other charts, currently sitting at Number 27 on Billboard’s Hot 100, which is a four-spot jump from last week.
2025 is shaping up to be another career high for Top. Earlier this month, on May 1, he reached another milestone goal with his debut late-night appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where he performed the hit, “I Never Lie,” of course. Then, just days later on Thursday, May 8, he was crowned ACM’s New Male Artist of the year.
If you’re hoping to hear country radio’s new favorite voice, you’re in luck, as he’ll be heading out on the road with Dierks Bentley for his Broken Branches Tour in a few weeks. Check out the full lineup of dates below:
