How dare you guys try and rage bait my favorite “Ol’ Red” singer?
Sorry, the Blake Shelton–Luke Bryan frenemies jokes just never get old. And I know a certain three young ladies at Bryan’s recent Orange Beach, Alabama show would have to agree.
The trio of fans recently went viral on TikTok after they posted the Georgia native’s reaction to a sign they held up in the front row at his Wharf Amphitheater show this past Saturday, July 25. Their posterboard read, “We love you, Blake” with a big heart drawing, and Bryan made a note during the show to let the ladies know that he was not going to fall for their pranks.
In fact, he told the crowd that with five kids at home, he’s well up to speed on the new “ragebaiting” trend. “You know what, because I have children, you know what that’s called? It’s called ragebait. It’s a new term.”
The term is pretty self-explanatory for anyone out of the loop, but as best described by the pinnacle source of definitions, Urban Dictionary, duh, ragebaiting is “Synonymous with trolling, used mostly by Zoomers who have little to no exposure to said synonymous term; to make some sort of statement designed to piss others off.”
Luckily for Bryan, he hilariously added that he can’t be ragebaited because “I never have liked Blake so there’s no rage.”
I would need some true pop culture archivists to date back the start of this ongoing playful feud between the country music icons, but if I had to pinpoint the catalyst, it was probably their gig co-hosting the 2013 ACM Awards when the two made some hilarious digs at one another before the show, including Bryan saying, “I kinda feel like the ACM’s really knew what they were doing when they chose someone like me…someone that’s maintained their country roots, hadn’t moved out to LA and left us all behind here in Nashville.”
Years later, the punches haven’t stopped rolling with Bryan most recently calling out Blake again, saying he should’ve won “PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive” instead: “I am better looking.” Don’t fret though; Shelton’s fired quite a few shots of his own at recent shows, with him calling out Bryan back in May, saying he, “can’t even remember the words to his own songs. Because they’re forgettable. You know what I’m saying? Even for him.”
All I know is, I hope these two never kiss and make up over their “fake” feud because Lord knows when they’re 85 and still bickering, it’ll be just as entertaining. For now, if you wanna catch one of Bryan’s concerts/comedy shows, he’ll return to the stage this Thursday, July 30, in Rapid City, SD.
