Talk about a once-in-a-lifetime crossover performance.
Fans at Guns N’ Roses’ Toronto show last night, August 5, were in for quite the treat (beyond the fact that they were already witnessing the legendary band live in concert). The classic ’80s rock staple, who recently kickstarted their 2026 North American tour, announced to the Rogers Stadium crowd that they had a special guest joining them, and I don’t think anyone was prepared for who would walk out.
Lead single Axl Rose teased, “Hopefully maybe a lot of you or all of you will come see him tomorrow night,” before 12-time Grammy Award-winning country music bad*ss Chris Stapleton joined the stage as the crowd erupted in awe. Stapleton who’s set to perform tonight, August 6 at the stadium apart of his very own All-American Road Show just so happened to already be in Toronto at the perfect time, joining Guns N’ Roses for an epic performance of “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door.”
The songs seen many versions over the years, stemming from Bob Dylan’s 1973 original, but the Los Angeles band put their own spin on the track back in 1991 for their fourth studio album, Use Your Illusion II. Apparently, the ultimate life hack to make a great song somehow become even greater is just to add Chris Stapleton to it. The 48-year-old Kentucky native was absolutely belting his heart out during the performance; I’m in awe of how he can even have a voice after last night.
All I know is I’m eternally jealous of everyone who got to witness this moment, and I’ll be spending all day watching every single video posted of their performance online. I’m gonna need Stapleton to start sprinkling more rock covers into his sets as he heads out on the remainder of his tour dates this year.
After tonight, the “Tennessee Whiskey” singer will only have nine shows left, rounding out on October 9 in Kansas City, Missouri.
