Following the earth-shattering aftermath of September 11, Americans were left grieving an unprecedented tragedy that no one quite knew how to process.

While the attacks forever changed the country, country music quickly became an outlet for that grief, embracing a new wave of patriotism and giving listeners songs that helped them mourn, remember, and come together.
