If there’s one thing Zach Top has proven throughout his 2026 Cold Beer & Country Music Tour this year, it’s that he’s truly a man of the people.
This past weekend, the Washington native continued his headlining stops by taking the stage at Saturday night’s September 19 Boots In The Park show in Fresno, California, joining the likes of supporting acts Max McNown, Jo Dee Messina, Tyler Braden, and Wyatt McCubbin. Mid-set, though, a little girl decided to hop up on her dad’s shoulders— which is always a bit of a controversial move at events like this.
On one hand, it can be frustrating for the people behind a suddenly seven-foot-tall obstacle. On the other, she’s just a kid, and chances are she had spent most of the show stuck at ground level without much of a view.
So, for a brief moment of happiness for a young child who’s probably getting to witness one of their very first concerts, it’s just something you have to sit back and smile at rather than getting annoyed over. Apparently, though, event staff at Top’s show over the weekend tried to nip the situation in the bud early, asking the young fan to get down from her dad’s shoulders, and the “I Never Lie” singer handled the situation like a true pro.
Top, who was in the middle of performing his 2024 track “Lonely For Long” (which, in case you’ve forgotten, is a completely underrated banger from his debut album), spotted the situation from the stage. Without pausing the song for a second, in between his lines, he shouted into the mic, “She can stay on his shoulders.”
He then added after the next portion of the song, “Hey buddy! She’s a kid; she can stay on his shoulders.” I’ve gotta hand it to him, the ability to scold someone mid-song without missing a beat is some pretty impressive professional talent right there.
The Fresno crowd cheered in excitement, with the little girl presumably becoming the star of the show, continuing to climb to the top of her Dad’s shoulder,, and Top affirming once more, “leave it alone.” You can also hear some girl in the background hilariously add in her own two cents, chirping, “Yeah f*ck you, security.”
The impromptu ad-libs did end up throwing him a little off guard as he continued playing flawlessly but slipped up on the lyrics, irritatingly announcing, “Naw I can’t even remember the damn words now.” It didn’t take long before Top just continued with the next line, delivering nearly the same gorgeous vocals as on the recorded original and finishing off the performance like a pro.
According to concertgoers in the comment section and the original TikTok user who posted the debacle, besides security’s unnecessary interference, the wholesome moment ended up being a bonding moment for the crowd, who continued to cheer on the young fan. She also made her way onto the stage’s side screens.
As for Top, he won’t be slowing down anytime soon as he prepares to hit the stage once more this Thursday, September 24, in Hidalgo, Texas, with a packed schedule of stops remaining throughout September and October.
