Zach Top Embraces Low Ticket Sales By Inviting Fans In The Back To Move Up Front In New York: “As Much As It Pains Me To Say, We Didn’t Fill This Place Up”

Apparently, “Blue Dot Fever” shows no mercy. The low-ticket trend is coming for even everyone’s favorite neo-traditional country revivalist, Zach Top.

There’s no denying that Top experienced an insane climb to the top of country music’s new class of acclaimed artists, sweeping everyone’s playlists and the radio with his earworm hits like “I Never Lie” and “Use Me.” Currently, the 28-year-old Washington native is on the cusp of a new era, aiming to continue his hot streak with the release of two new songs just last week as he prepares for an inevitable spring 2027 album release.

You’d think by now Top would be selling out every show he headlines, not to mention dominating arenas. But unfortunately, even he experiences less-than-ideal low turnout shows at times.

Luckily for the “Cold Beer & Country Music” aficionado, he’s well-versed in playing to crowds of thousands and to intimate rooms with just a handful of listeners. A couple of weeks ago, Top experienced a crowd somewhere in the middle of the two at his show in Wantagh, New York.

Unfortunately, the Jones Beach Theater on August 13 didn’t quite fill up as he had anticipated— but in his defense, I don’t think the rainy weather prior to the show helped his case. Nonetheless, a few puddles and scattered empty seats didn’t stop him from giving everyone at the show V.I.P. treatment.

One fan in attendance at the Long Island local concert captured Top disappointingly pointing out the number of empty seats in the crowd, stating, “as much as it pains me to say, we didn’t quite fill this place up.” Immediately, the crowd erupted in a wave of boos.

Top made light of the moment, though, offering everyone in the loop seats of the amphitheater to shimmy down, “maybe if y’all right up there at the top, we’d like to say, feel free to ease your way on down, get a little closer.” Erasing the empty space, he added, “I can’t see all the way up there; we’ll just pretend it ain’t there.”

Then, sounding like someone’s paw paw, he joked, “Get cozy; we won’t bite ya, we’d love to see the whites of your eyes…that sounded strange.” You can hear the rummaging fans murmuring as they made their way into seats with a much better view.

Top followed it up with a little more controversial request for the lot of Northeast concert goers, asking if they’d answer a poll: “Who’s a fan of the New York Yankees here?” followed by “Who’s a fan of the New York Mets?”

And like a true crowd of New Yorkers, both responses were filled with a mix of people hootin’ and hollerin’ and booing at the top of their lungs, so it was pretty hard to decipher where the majority lay in the crowd. Top responded, “This makes my job hard because we’re pretty split down the middle.”

By this point, I imagine he might’ve started a few fights in his newly filled sea of fans closer to the stage, but hey, he kept the show rollin’ like a champ. Kudos to Top for the class act and not letting an emptier crowd bum him out, but rather turning it into an opportunity to give his true fans a better experience.

The Grammy Award-winning artist still has quite a few concerts left throughout the remainder of the year, and as promised, some more new music on the way for 2026. He’s back on the road at this very moment, hitting the stage tonight in Canada at the YQM Countryfest, followed by a show tomorrow night in Gilford, NH.
