In case you’ve forgotten and need a pick-me-up, here’s your Monday morning reminder that new Zach Top music is on the way.
Matter of fact, we only have two more weeks to wait before the Washington native drops two brand new songs: “Good Girls & Cowgirls” and “Other Side Of Hurtin’.” Top already gave a sneak peek of the first track, debuting it live a couple of weeks back in Montana and recently releasing the full acoustic rendition to his YouTube channel.
As for the latter of the two, the song has remained a mystery, with Top announcing a few weeks ago that his August 21 release would be a surprise double-hitter with the addition of this second track. Luckily, curing our curiosities in advance, Top finally gave a glimpse into what to expect from the song, debuting it live over the weekend at his stops in Ottawa, Ontario, and Canandaigua, New York.
Taking the stage this past Friday, August 7, at the Canadian Tire Centre, followed by the Constellation Brands-Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center (which is quite the mouthful) the following night, he blessed both crowds with “Other Side of Hurtin'” and advised them to “Mark your calendars, check it out when it’s out.” The song itself is exactly what I was hoping would come from Top next: a good ‘ole classic slow sad country song.
While don’t get me wrong, his upbeat honky tonk jukebox tunes like the prior “Good Girls & Cowgirls” are a staple of his discography; I’ve been yearning for another gut-wrenchingly good heartache ballad like “South of Sanity.” Luckily, per the live performance, that’s exactly what this song is, and I, for one, can’t wait to hear the whining steel guitar on the official recorded version in a few weeks.
The remainder of 2026 and next year in particular are bound to be full of many more Zach Top surprises in store, with the “I’d Never Lie” singer amping up to release his next full album, allegedly sometime in the spring. In the meantime, he’ll return to the stage in just a few days on August 13 in Wantagh, NY, followed by two back-to-back nights in Boston, MA.
