Showin’ love to one of the best.
Last month, Charles Wesley Godwin and the Allegheny High took their tour to Pittsburgh at the famous AE Stage right outside of the Steelers’ stadium, Heinz Field, and delivered a knockout 24-song set. The set began with your standard fair for Godwin and Co. with them playing hits such as “All Again,” “Temporary Town” and his 2022 collaboration with Zach Bryan, “Jamie.”
The encore, however, very well might have been the highlight of the show with Godwin pulling out covers of Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline,” Merle Haggard’s “Ramblin’ Fever,” John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads” and most notably a cover of Tyler Childers‘ “Whitehouse Road.”
It’s no stretch to say that “Whitehouse Road” is one of the most popular songs from Childers‘ deep catalog, being certified platinum with over 190 million streams on Spotify alone.
As a huge fan of both artists, I have to say that Godwin killed the cover. Dressed fittingly in a custom Steelers jersey, the “Cue Country Roads” singer delivered a knockout performance judging by the short clip posted on his Instagram, and we need a full version ASAP.
