Chris Stapleton continues to build up the hype for his highly anticipated follow-up to the Grammy-winning album, Starting Over.
With Higher less than a month away, Stapleton decided to drop another new song, It Takes A Woman. It joins Think I’m In Love With You and White Horse as the three pre-released tracks off the album slated for a November 10 release.
Fans of the Parachute singer know that this song has been on the back burner for over a decade now. Stapleton first played it on Valentine’s Day 2013 with his wife, Morgan, along with Ronnie and Garnet Bowman. Flash forward ten years, and it’s finally here.
It sounds extremely similar to that early version with some added polishing in the studio. Stapleton’s vocals, as usual, sound brilliant, soaring in the chorus. His harmonies with Morgan here are once again stellar. The way Morgan’s voice compliments and ultimately competes with Chris’ vocals is a testament to her vocal ability. The love these two have for each other can nearly be tangibly felt on this loving track.
It Takes A Woman is independently penned by Stapleton. Though he’s had some more lyrically complex songs over the past few albums, the way he delivers these heart-felt lines here feel extremely reverent and open. There’s a sort of beauty found in the simplicity of the concepts paired with his soaring vocals throughout.
“Whenever I’m broken
Honey, you heal me
When I’m in the dark
You are the light
When I get lost
You know right where to find me
When I have my doubts
You make me believe”
