A big ole hit.
Chris Stapleton has officially earned his fourth #1 song at country radio with “White Horse.”
The lead single off his most recent album, “Higher,” White Horse was written by Stapleton and Dan Wilson, and is one of the more rockin’ songs included on the 14-track record. It feels kind of rough, dangerous and most importantly, provides the type of edge this album so desperately needed. Sonically, it’s easily the standout.
While Nate Smith’s “World On Fire” just spent its seventh consecutive week at #1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart, Stapleton’s “White Horse” takes the top spot on Mediabase country. Both charts are used to determine metrics and are often referred to as “country radio.”
As a songwriter, Stapleton has earned multiple #1 hits with Kenny Chesney’s “Never Wanted Nothing More” in 2007, as well as Darius Rucker’s “Come Back Song,” Luke Bryan’s “Drink a Beer,” and probably the most surprising to hear; Thomas Rhett’s 2015 hit, “Crash and Burn.”
His solo songs to reach #1 include “Broken Halo’s,” “Starting Over,” and “You Should Probably Leave.” For those of you wondering where “Tennessee Whiskey” is, the song was never officially released as a single, despite seeing massive success and being certified a whopping 14x platinum by the RIAA.
We did a top five best songs list from Higher right after it dropped, and of course, “White Horse” was included. You can check out the other four songs that made the cut here.
Stapleton gave a phenomenal performance of the track at the 57th annual CMA Awards this past November. Watch his performance below.
