Flatland Cavalry has long been one of independent country’s best-kept secrets. Since their debut in 2015 with Come May, Flatland has earned the reputation of being one of the best and most underrated bands in the entire genre.
Despite a growing fanbase and critical praise from album to album, the band has never had a song certified by the RIAA. That changed today, however.
A Life Where We Work Out (feat. Kaitlin Butts) was just certified gold by the RIAA, selling over 500,000 units as of February 12th. It should come as no surprise given that the track is their most-streamed song on both Apple Music and Spotify, boasting nearly 63 million streams on Spotify alone.
There’s a reason that the song has connected in the hearts and minds of so many listeners; the song is simply great, capturing everything a country duet needs. It has incredible harmonies from real-life husband and wife, Cordero and Butts. It has fantastic production, featuring Flatland’s signature inclusion of fiddle. And arguably most importantly, it has incredibly relatable, yet longing lyrics. It’s one of those tracks that get better with every listen.
Be on the lookout for more songs from the band to be certified soon since Sleeping Alone and Mountain Song have risen to the top of Flatland’s discography with over 44 and 23 million streams on Spotify respectively.
