Yesterday, CMT published another performance video of Megan Moroney from their Campfire Sessions.
The country music television network first released the acoustic set, featuring performances of “I’m Not Pretty,” “Sleep On My Side,” “Girl In The Mirror” and “Tennessee Orange,” back in July of this year, but it appears they decided to save her cover of Chris Stapleton’s “What Are You Listening To?” until now.
Kickin’ off the video with a short introduction, Megan calls the 2013 single, “criminally underrated,” adding that it’s “one of her favorite songs” from the 45 year-old superstar.
“What Are You Listening To?” was written by Stapleton, alongside Lee Thomas Miller, and was his first-ever single at Country radio.
After not performing how expected, Chris scrapped the already finished debut album the song was apart of, and later released the masterpiece that was “Traveller” in 2015.
Many other artists have also released covers of the track, including Luke Combs when he posted an acoustic video three years ago after being nominated by Morgan Wallen for the “Deep Cuts Challenge.” Even he acknowledged how underrated the song is in the description of the YouTube video:
“This may not technically be a deep cut but it’s a song that didn’t get as much credit as I think it deserved.”
This isn’t the first time Moroney has posted a Chris Stapleton cover, either. Back in March of 2020, she posted a cover video for “Either Way,” a track that Lee Ann Womack also released in 2008. (You can watch that, here).
While not many can outdo the White Horse singer, Megan’s take on the underrated track offers a new and fresh perspective, coming from one of the hottest up-and-comers in Country music this past year. Check it out, below.
