Today is a very lucky day for Apple Music users, and of course, Megan Moroney fans. Starting off the month of July with a bang, Moroney officially released her fan-favorite cover of Toby Keith’s “Who’s Your Daddy,” and it’s everything.
It seems this song has been a hyperfixation for the 27-year-old country icon, given she’s been performing the 2002 single at her soundchecks since April. Besides being a Toby Keith classic, the song has also been a trending sound on TikTok for quite some time, so it makes sense that it’s also probably been stuck in her head like the rest of us.
Moroney has since then added her live version to the setlist of a few of her shows throughout the Am I Okay? Tour (as well as numerous TikTok posts of lip syncing the song, and even an impromptu performance alongside margs with her friends). Between her sassy stage presence and raspy vocals, there’s no denying that her take on the track is a fun, upbeat revival of the earworm.
For younger fans who may have only recently discovered the Toby Keith track thanks to Moroney (which is a crazy statement to even think about), the self-written track was featured on his second album, Unleashed, and became his second single in August 2002. Beyond its incredibly catchy chorus, it tells the story of a young girl and, of course, her sugar daddy.
To paint a better visual, the iconic music video is a must-watch. Beyond its crazy camera angles, it shows a woman who has the time of her life after breaking into Keith’s mansion alongside the late country legend, cruising around in a bright yellow Ford Mighty.
With fans reciprocating the love for Moroney’s cover, it only makes sense that Apple recruited Moroney to be a part of their Toby Keith Covered Sessions, alongside some of country’s other biggest stars like Riley Green, Ella Langley, Ashley McByrde, Tucker Wetmore, and Parker McCollum. Recorded live from Nashville, these six honor Toby’s legacy, covering a few of his other greatest hits, such as Green on “Should’ve Been A Cowboy” and Wetmore singing “As Good As I Once Was.”
This release also comes just less than two weeks after the release of her most recent single, “6 Months Later.” In that time, the track has skyrocketed to spot 30 on Billboard’s Hot 100 as well as debuting at number 5 on the US Spotify Chart.
For discouraged non-Apple music users, you can still buy the full version on iTunes if you’re eager to hear the cover. Not to mention, the Tennessee Orange singer has also been seen on social media, busy in the studio recording her third album, so there is plenty to look forward to.
Likewise, with the official release of her cover, it’s safe to assume this might not be the last time Moroney plays her version live on tour. With quite a few dates left throughout the rest of 2025, there are ample opportunities to hopefully rock out to this song on the Am I Okay? Tour.
