I truly don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that this just might be one of the worst covers ever— like I’m talking worse than the drunk guy belting karaoke at your local dive bar at 2 am bad.
I’m not sure what kind of hazing ritual this was, but for some reason the University of Nebraska’s offensive line coach, Geep Wade, was forced to sing in front of the team and it was…something. Wade officially started his first full season with the college in 2026 and was greeted by a fall camp activity that the team’s been doing for well over a decade: karaoke.
I give Geep kudos for his bold ballad choice, Morgan Wallen’s 2021 mega hit “Sand In My Boots.” The single, with over half a million streams on Spotify from his album Dangerous, is one that Wallen still performed on his 2026 tour, bringing out his grand piano (when it worked) during the set to serenade the crowds.
Unfortunately for Geep, his performance was a little more grueling, singing with an auditorium mic at the front of a massive conference room at the Lincoln-based school with all of the players and faculty members staring down at him below. With that being said, I’m in awe of his confidence and just how truly awful his vocals are.
Many users chimed into the comment section like judges from American Idol under the now viral clip with over 200K views, including his own team throwing shade:
Luckily, before he could finish, Wade was booed off the “stage” and not because the performance was a hard watch. Upon singing the lyrics, “something about the way she kissed me, tells me she loves Eastern Tennessee,” his crowd was filled with an eruption of disgruntled booes.
The Sneedville-natives song probably wasn’t the best choice to proclaim in front of a group of cornhuskers and proud volunteers rivals. I can’t say Nebraska’s my personal Big 10 pick (sorry Huskers), but I still hope Wade’s a better OL coach this season than a singer…which shouldn’t be too hard to accomplish.
