Sam Barber Returns With Release Of New Electric Angsty Anthem “Borrowed Time”

After cryptically teasing “new song coming Friday” on his Instagram story, the mystery was worth the wait for Sam Barber’s latest release, “Borrowed Time.”

The high-energy rockin’ ballad is an extension of Barber’s unbroken track record of hits. This single marks the 22-year-old’s first official solo release of new music in 2026, following the drop of his Live From 2025 album on February 6 and another incredible duet with Avery Anna, “Fear of God,” released on February 13.

Hopefully beckoning in another spectacular year of music to come for Barber, fans caught a wave of the 30-second intro, including Barber’s kick-off yell and the heavy drums and electric guitar after he posted to Instagram using a snippet from @sambarbersounds on Instagram. While none of the other clips are currently confirmed to be upcoming releases, there are still quite a few great songs on there that could be speculated to be a part of the “Man of the Year” singer’s next big project.

Barber, who entered the country music scene as an independent artist in 2021 with his single “Run Away High,” really had his cataclysmic breakout year in 2024 with the releases of his hit singles, “Straight and Narrow,” “Dancing in the Sky,” and “S.O.B” which all found their way onto his debut album, Restless Mind. Since this breakout project, Barber’s fast climb in the industry and his unbeatable talent need to be studied.

Extending on his brooding songwriting, this anger-filled track calls out a toxic partner and their torrid relationship as she “comes and go as you please.” Being completely hands-on with almost every element of this co-written track with Joe Becker, Barber also lends his acoustic and electric guitar playing skills to the instrumentals that really uphold this captivating song. This is truly the perfect soundtrack to an angsty scream-singing drive through a long, misty road (or honestly, if you just need a 3-minute bang-the-steering-wheel type of hype up on the way to the grocery store).

The Missouri native is currently out on his road trip around the country, also known as his 2026 The American Route tour, alongside supporting acts Waylon Wyatt, Wild Horses, Michael Marcagi, Clover Country, and Bebe Stockwell. Kicking into gear this past January in Oxford, Mississippi, the 20-plus-stop long tour will continue over the next couple of months, wrapping up on June 6 in Lexington, Kentucky. Hopefully, giving Barber the rest of 2026 to continue to focus on fueling fans’ playlists and delivering some certified masterpieces like “Borrowed Time” to come.
