Even Aaron Rodgers might be tuning into this…
The Turnpike Troubadours have long been one of independent country’s best kept secrets since their debut in 2010. Frequently being called one of the best bands in country, they have slowly become nearly every independent country fan’s favorite band today.
After coming back from their hiatus in 2022, Turnpike has been on an undoubted hot streak. Between extensively touring, they also dropped their highly-anticipated comeback album, A Cat in the Rain back in August.
With all of that being said, it is a huge win for the Oklahoma band and fans of indie country with them being on a major late night show such as Kimmel’s.
Their appearance comes amidst Kimmel’s public feud with New York Jets quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, after Rodgers made a joke about him “really hoping” the highly controversial Jefferey Epstein flight list doesn’t come out.
With many eyes on Kimmel due to this feud, it seems like the perfect time for Turnpike to make an appearance and get more eyes (and ears) on their music.
To say they made the most of their appearance would be an understatement. They unsurprisingly played Mean Old Sun which served as the lead single off of A Cat in the Rain.
You could have told me it was the studio version of the track, and I would have believed it. The band was incredibly tight during the performance, and Evan Felker’s vocals, in particular, were absolutely stellar.
Again, the fact that an independent country band like Turnpike is playing on a mainstream late night show such as Kimmel’s is yet another huge win for indie country and the genre as a whole. Though many fans of the band weren’t thrilled that they were playing on the show, it undoubtedly puts more eyes on the band and their incredible music.
