Chris Stapleton and wife, Morgane, had one of the most memorable performances at the 59th annual Academy of Country Music Awards last night.
Teaming up with pop sensation, Dua Lipa, in Frisco, Texas, the pair performed Stapleton’s newest single, “Think I’m In Love With You,” off his latest fifth studio album, “Higher,” released back in November of last year.
After the performance, Lipa spoke to radio personality, Bobby Bones, and gave a little insight on how the two sparked the idea for the collaboration:
“We really got together two days ago to rehearse for this, but we’ve been talking about this for a little while,” Lipa says. “I’m such a fan of Chris’. I just reached out and was like ‘hey, you wanna do something together?’ And this came about.”
Other memorable performances from the ACM Awards included Noah Kahan and Kelsea Ballerini’s performance of “Stick Season,” as well as Jason Aldean’s tear-jerking, acoustic tribute to Toby Keith with a performance of his 1993 debut single, “Should’ve Been a Cowboy.” You can watch that here.
As tiresome as it can be watching these “country” award shows constantly bring in pop stars on stage to try and boost ratings, I will say – Chris and Dua absolutely crushed it. I wouldn’t mind if the two released a version together to streaming platforms in the near future, either. Check out their performance below.
