WATCH: Old Vine Videos of Luke Combs Solidified His Spot as a Country Music Superstar Early On

Getting his start on Vine, Luke Combs is a true success story, sharing six-second videos singing classic country covers — as well as a few originals — and skyrocketing to stardom, quickly becoming one of the greatest country stars of our generation.

“I was on this social media app called Vine. Do you remember that? I wasn’t mega big on there or anything, but I had enough fans where I was selling music, and I didn’t realize that was weird until I got to Nashville. They were like, ‘Wait, you’re selling how much?,'” Combs shared on The Joe Rogan Experience in 2023. “The content on that app was six seconds long. It was like TikTok but six seconds. You would have to pick out what’s the most impactful section of a George Strait song, or of a Waylon Jennings song, or anything I can sing… I would get on there and just sing that six seconds on my guitar, then put it on there, and people were sharing and sharing.”

“When I put my own music out, obviously I’m going to market to these people that already like my voice, and it just worked out,” Combs concluded, detailing how Vine helped kickstart his country music career.

Nowadays, this same success is happening with aspiring artists via TikTok, notably Tucker Wetmore with his song “Wine Into Whiskey” and Dasha with her song “Austin.” With both soon-to-be country stars stepping out at the 2024 CMT Music Awards on Sunday (April 7), with the latter even taking the stage to perform, it would be unsurprising if their country music career continued to skyrocket due to their strong following on social media.

As far as Combs goes, above is a compilation of the Vines that allowed him to step into the country music scene, making it big in Music City. Singing some of the greatest hits from stars like Kenny Chesney, Eric Church and Garth Brooks and some originals such as “The Way She Rides,” “She Got The Best Of Me” and “One Number Away” — as well as some unidentifiable, seemingly unreleased songs — the following tracks are featured within the compilation, in addition to a few comedy skits spliced in here and there:

    •  “Carrying Your Love With Me” — George Strait
    • “American Kids” — Kenny Chesney

    • “You” — Chris Young
    • “One Number Away” — Luke Combs
    • “She’s Got This Thing About Her” — Chris Young

To this day, country music lovers are still fans of these Vines, begging for Combs to release studio versions of these covers like he did with Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car,” ultimately garnering a great deal of success.

One fan wrote in the comment section of the Vine compilation, garnering over a thousand likes, “Can we just get like 6 albums of you covering other peoples songs and actually doing it better than them?”

“I’m convinced Luke has the best voice in the entire world. Not even joking. The guy can literally sing anything and make it sound better than the original. Crazy,” another gushed.

“Would love to find the full version of every song he covers on this video,” a third fan admitted.

Getting his start on Vine and quickly becoming one of the biggest and best country stars of our generation — even topping the nominations at the 2024 Academy of Country Music Awards — Combs proved to any aspiring country artist that you can make it big with nothing but true talent and the power of the internet. Teasing some new tunes on his various social media profiles as of late, it is safe to say that Combs will continue to climb the ladder for years to come, and country music lovers cannot wait to see what new songs he has in store.
