Ever since Luke Combs announced Treaty Oak Revival as one of his openers on his 2027 tour, I haven’t been able to stop imagining the Pompeii-level mass chaos that could unfold inside a stadium if they perform “Boomtown.”
Honestly, the pairing came as a bit of a curveball in my opinion. Combs puts on a massive, relatively family-friendly concert experience, while a Treaty Oak show is the type of place you get soaked in warm beer, find yourself in the middle of a fight or two, and leave potentially concussed by flying objects.
With that being said, the partnership also immediately had me saying “h*ll yeah,” because what better bang for your buck than getting to see a 20+ No. 1 hitmaker alongside one of Texas’ rowdiest rock bands all in the same night?
And while I’m sure there’s a pretty large crossover of Combs fans who also like to jam out to the “Wrong Place Wrong Time” singers, there’s no denying that some unsuspecting concertgoers probably won’t be too fond of Treaty Oak’s typical crowd and its beer-slinging antics. Even though we’re a good eight months away from the April 3 kickoff of the 2027 My Kind Saturday Night Tour, many fans who survived the ticket-sale wars a couple of weeks ago are already concerned as to whether or not the band’s concert ritual during “Boomtown” will happen.
One TikTok user, @necountrymusic, took to the internet to send out a friendly warning to unprepared fans, letting them know: “If you’ve never been to a Treaty Oak Revival show, you need to be warned, and you need to be prepared…during “Boomtown,” fans of TOR throw their beers, whether they’re in cups or cans, into the crowd. Doesn’t matter how full or empty they are.”
To my surprise, the PSA was apparently much needed, considering many commenters expressed shock upon learning of the tradition for the very first time. Quite a few people voiced their disdain at having to sit through the night soaked in liquid, and others, conscious of avoiding any allergy flare-ups:
Fear not, because there was still a handful of TOR fans representing their culture in the comment section, calling the experience “electric” and promising to bring the A-typical drink-chucking energy:
Unfortunately for those concerned and trying to prepare ahead of time (or those excited out of their mind to participate in the rain-shower mosh pit), there’s no surefire answer yet whether or not they’ll keep the 2021 song on their setlist. As one user pointed out, though, foreseeing this issue, they may remove the song from their show just once for this one tour.
Considering it’s a fan-favorite staple, though, there’s also the chance they may simply ask fans not to throw anything during the show, similar to their performance at the historic Ryman Auditorium. However, as we all know, at that May 2026 show, fans didn’t really follow the rules on the venue signs very well.
To be fair, the “Hurricane” singer himself is known to spray a can or two on stage of his own during his concert, with the tradition of shotgunning a beer during “One Too Many.” So you never know; he may embrace Treaty Oak’s pre-show shower.
