How time flies.
Before he was one of the hottest acts in the independent country scene, Wyatt Flores was just another up-and-coming artist with only one song, “Losing Sleep,” being available on streaming. Despite receiving some buzz in certain indie circles, Flores hadn’t quite gotten the attention that he deserved. That all changed when he dropped his first full band single, “Please Don’t Go,” on July 14, 2022.
Since its release, “Please Don’t Go” has become Flores’ most successful song to date, racking up over 128 million streams on Spotify alone. More notably, it became his first-ever RIAA-certified gold and later platinum hit, earning the platinum certification on June 5, 2024.
In a tweet announcing the song’s release back in July of 2022, Flores noted that it was inspired by one of his loved ones, “It was written about the life experiences I’ve had with a dear loved one and focuses on the importance of mental health.”
It should come as no surprise that “Please Don’t Go,” written by Flores and Ryan Price, has become the Oklahoman singer/songwriter’s signature song. Between the moody, acoustic first half that crescendos brilliantly in the latter part to the iconic“Times are getting hard, hits you like a bullet through your heart” lyric, the platinum hit is inarguably one of the best songs in the genre over the past few years.
It’s been incredible to watch the “Milwaukee” singer’s career take off since the track’s release two years ago. From dropping not one but two albums over the past eight months, to headlining festivals such as Laurel Cove Music Festival to making appearances with Grammy-nominees, Sierra Hull and Gavin DeGraw, there’s no telling how bright the future is for Flores. One thing that is for sure, however, is that “Please Don’t Go” will forever be at the forefront of his ever-growing, rock-solid discography.
