On the third anniversary of his 2022 EP, Summertime Blues, Zach Bryan was gifted with a whole lot of hardware. After a long period of time without any certifications from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the “River Washed Hair” singer was gifted a staggering 58 this morning.

In case you aren’t aware of what the RIAA is, it’s a trade organization representing the U.S. recording industry. More notably, they’re responsible for keeping track of artists and albums’ sales, giving out “gold” and “platinum” certifications based on the number of sales a given song or album experiences.

Further diving into what goes into the criteria, when an artist receives a gold certification, it means the single or album has sold at least 500,000 units since its release, while a platinum cert means it has sold at least 1 million. As for diamond, a song or record must sell 10 million units.

As for what constitutes a unit, one paid download or 150 on-demand streams of a given song will count towards a unit sold. As for albums, three separate criteria can be met to constitute as a unit sold. The three are as follows:

    1. A permanent digital album or physical album sale
    2. 10 permanent track downloads from the album
    3. 1,500 on-demand audio and/or video streams from the album

Diving back to Bryan’s huge morning, most notably, “Something in the Orange,” which reached one billion streams on Spotify alone last August, becomes Bryan’s first-ever certified diamond song. Reaching a 12x platinum status, the 2022 #1 hit now stands as one of the select few country songs ever to reach diamond.

Bryan’s Grammy-winning collaboration with Kacey Musgraves, “I Remember Everything,” was also certified 5x platinum today. The track, which propelled the 28-year-old singer/songwriter to become the second country artist ever to have two separate one-billion stream songs on Spotify, also became the first song to top the Billboard Hot 100, Hot Country Songs and Hot Rock & Alternative Songs charts simultaneously.

Other notable certifications include the Oklahoma native’s breakout hit, “Heading South” (5x Platinum), “Oklahoma Smokeshow” (4x Platinum), “Burn, Burn, Burn” (3x Platinum), “Hey Driver” (3x Platinum) and American Heartbreak (3x Platinum).

With the 58 new certifications, Bryan is now the eighth highest-selling country artist of all time with 86 million units sold.
