I don’t know about you guys, but when I was 15 years old, I certainly didn’t have the talent or charisma to hop on stage and sing my heart out in front of a panel of celebrity coaches, let alone on national television.
Then again, that takes a whole lot of guts at any age. But apparently, it’s no sweat for showstopper Allie Rae, the 15-year-old country singer from Texas who earned herself a spot on Team Green on The Voice. I’ve got to hand it to the Duckman; as a first-time coach this season, he sure knows how to round up one heck of a talented team, and Allie is living proof of that.
Last night (Nov. 2), she stepped on stage for the nail-biting first-ever “cut week” episode in which the coaches are forced to eliminate 15 out of their 28 artists in one night. Fighting to keep her boot in the battle, Allie performed Lainey Wilson’s radio hit, “4X4XU,” and based on the internet’s quick response to her rendition, she’s certainly got a bright future ahead.
Wilson’s 2024 single is surely no easy feat, making the young singer’s gorgeous vocals and raspy runs even more impressive. With nearly half a million views on TikTok alone, many are also running to the comment section on social media to compare her to the Louisiana native herself alongside stars like LeAnn Rimes, Kelly Pickler, or, as Green noted, “a little mini-Reba.”
When it came time for the coaches’ reviews, Clarkson voiced what we were all thinking, praising her insane performance at such a young age, saying, “Regardless of what happens right now, you are so far ahead of the game. You are going to be incredible.” In his notes, Green doubled down on the love for Allie, but unfortunately, when it came time for cuts, her impressive stage presence and budding vocals left weren’t enough to make her an immediate lock-in for the next round.
Each coach picked two artists to go straight to the live shows, leaving five contestants to prove themselves in another performance (which included Allie), and now each coach will select one of their remaining five artists. The other 12 remaining artists are left in the hands of America, as viewers can vote on which artist from any team should make it to the Top 13.
Keeping you on the edge of your seat until then, The Voice will return next Monday (Nov. 9) on NBC.
