This is certainly one of the more…creative scams.
I know I’m not alone when I say that I get about a handful of requests a day from social media accounts posing to be part of “Morgan Wallen’s management team.” Luckily, the lack of a profile picture and zero followers are usually enough to tip you off that it’s a scam.
However, one Arkansas man apparently managed to take that same facade a step further, allegedly convincing local police that he was a member of the Sneedville native’s team and that the superstar needed security at a nearby hotel. And I’m just as shocked as you are that law enforcement actually fell for it.
Back in February 2025, 24-year-old Cody Lee Hill allegedly called Benton County Central Communications, claiming to be some sort of management member for Wallen. He requested law enforcement assistance at a nearby hotel in Rogers, AK, stating that the hotel’s bar area was “crowded and officers were needed to ensure safe passage for Wallen and his group.”
I’m not sure how, but apparently Hill sounded convincing enough over the phone, and officers did in fact report to the hotel, where Lee had apparently reserved three rooms under his alias. Now call me crazy, but I’m a little perplexed why the operators would even be convinced that the “Sand In My Boots” singer was just waltzing around Arkansas in the first place, considering the multi-platinum certified artist had no tour stops planned in the area at the time.
The police continued to communicate with Hill via text message as he provided them with updates and went so far as to describe the apparent tour bus he and Wallen’s team were supposedly traveling in. Shocker: No tour bus ever pulled up, and Morgan Wallen was nowhere to be found.
The scheme seems like a pretty elaborate phone prank if you ask me, but apparently this sorta thing is just what Hill does. The Fort Smith native has a long history of fraud allegations behind him, including a wild scam involving his very own fake real estate company (which I can’t even begin to describe the lore), illegitimate rental listings, and going as far as to brag about all of his scams.
According to a Bentonville police affidavit, one of his relatives, ” described overhearing Hill on the telephone laughing when people he allegedly scammed called trying to recover their money.” Another one of his friend’s also confirmed, “Hill would brag about never being short of money and said that if he ran out, he could simply defraud somebody else.”
Although it’s not clear what kind of benefit he was gaining from his Morgan Wallen stint (other than working on his improv skills maybe?), the 24-year-old is now currently behind bars after police were able to track his phone number and connect him to previous crimes. Hill is currently facing charges including “unlawful acts regarding computers, computer fraud, second-degree criminal impersonation, harassing communications, obstructing governmental operations, and theft of services damaging utility property.”
As predicted, Morgan Wallen had no involvement in the crime or had any knowledge of the alleged scheme. For those nosey who want to read more about his loaded record, check out the full post here.
Many users underneath the Facebook post couldn’t help but marvel at his conniving track record, writing, “pretty ambitious for a 24 year old” and “this has Netflix written all over it.” Someone needs to get a camera crew down to the local county jail ASAP and investigate why in the h*ll this guy thought scamming the police would make for a fun afternoon activity.
