Talk about star power.
The CMA Awards aired Wednesday night and they gave us an iconic performance from three of the biggest names in all of entertainment.
Morgan Wallen and Hardy came out for a performance of the Joe Diffie Classic, “John Deere Green,” before bringing out superstar Post Malone to join them for another Diffie Hit in “Pickup Man.”
The trio were a hit with the crowd, and Posty’s introduction was one of the biggest audience reactions of the night. Malone sounded surprisingly natural while taking on a very twangy song in “Pickup Man.” His raspy voice fits right in with Wallen and Hardy’s drawl.
I must say, Post looks right at home in country attire. Hell, the three posed for some pictures before the show, and if you didn’t know any better you wouldn’t be able to pick out the rapper from the country singers.
Post Malone has shown some interest in the country world for a long time. A recording of Malone covering Brad Paisley’s “I’m Gonna Miss Her” has circulated on the internet over the last few years, and Malone has never been shy of his admiration for the genre.
Whether we get a full country album from Malone or not, it is awesome to see a mainstream artist show love for some of the true legends of country. We’ve seen a fair amount of country and pop crossing over into each other, but Malone is one of the few pop acts that shows a deep understanding and respect for the genre.
Following the performance, Hardy announced the studio versions of the two covers as HIXTAPE VOL. 3: DIFFTAPE, which features Diffie himself on both recordings. Hardy previously released two separate volumes of the “Hixtapes,” which each feature collaboration songs between multiple artists.
