There ain’t much this girl can’t do.
Lainey Wilson has become one of the biggest stars in country music. From her debut single (which was also her first #1) with “Things A Man Oughta Know,” to her acting role in Paramount’s hit show, Yellowstone, and to just being crowned the CMA Entertainer of the Year, Lainey continues to further show why she was meant for the spotlight.
Aside from her own discography, she can also cover the hell out of almost any song from any genre.
Just recently she paid tribute to Matraca Berg at the BMI Awards with a flawless cover of “Strawberry Wine,” and then turned around and covered Elvis’ “Santa Clause Is Back In Town” during NBC’s Christmas at Graceland TV Special.
If you go a little further back, you’ll find even more covers and content from the superstar during her decade living in Nashville. One that stands out to me the most is her cover of Janis Joplin’s “Mercedes Benz” from June of 2022.
Mercedes Benz was written by Janis, as well as Bob Neuwirth and Michael McClure, and released in 1971 off her second solo album, Pearl.
Unlike the original, Lainey’s rendition features some harmonica and harmonies from her band and leads perfectly into her 2021 song, “La.”
