This is my official petition to bring the #deepcuts challenge back.
When COVID-19 put the world on pause back in 2020, Tim McGraw started the social media trend, challenging other country stars to post videos of themselves covering their favorite deep cuts from other artists.
Morgan Wallen was nominated for the challenge by Thomas Rhett, and fresh off being on tour with Jason Aldean, he chose to record his own version of one of Aldean’s most underrated songs, “Water Tower.”
The original, which Morgan refers to as one of his “favorite songs,” was written by Michael Dulaney, Paul Jenkins and Jason Sellers, and sits on Aldean’s 2012 record, “Night Train.” It’s a phenomenally written tune and it’s definitely one of the 46-year old’s greatest and slightly over-looked deep cuts.
Wallen went on to nominate fellow superstar Luke Combs, who then also accepted and gave fans another incredible performance, covering Chris Stapleton’s “What Are You Listening To.”
Not only was Wallen’s performance just really darn good, it also gave his and Aldean’s fans something fun to watch and listen to during a deeply stressful time in the world.
