Back on June 5, Koe Wetzel released “High Road” off of his upcoming album, 9 Lives, and was an instant success for the “Ragweed” singer. The track is Wetzel’s most successful debut to date, debuting at #29 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, as well as #3 on Spotify US and #10 on Apple Music. As of June 27, the song has already racked up over 21 million streams on Spotify alone.

Yesterday, he took to Instagram to announce the video’s release.

Despite the success of “High Road,” it did not come without controversy. Many fans were extremely critical of Jessie Murph’s inclusion in the song, saying that she ruined it. While it seems fairly ridiculous given that the pair’s voices work incredibly well together in my opinion, it didn’t stop many from criticizing her being the surprise feature.

Directed by Michael Herricks, a frequent collaborator with Wetzel, the video is your standard studio video affair. It’s packed with some fantastic backlighting that really sets the tone for the sultry track, simultaneously making you feel like you’re in the studio with the pair.

“High Road” is the fourth and presumedly final pre-released song off of Wetzel’s sixth studio album, 9 Lives, which is slated for release on July 19. Earlier this week, he posted the 13-song track list which includes the following:

    1. Continued
    2. “9 Lives (Black Cat)”
    3. “Depression & Obsession”
    4. “Damn Near Normal”
    5. “Leigh”
    6. “Twister”
    7. “High Road (feat. Jessie Murph)”
    8. “Reconsider
    9. “Hatchet”
    10. “Sweet Dreams”
    11. “Runnin’ Low”
    12. “Bar Song”
    13. “Last Outlaw Alive”
