Megan Moroney Releases Sophomore Album ‘Am I Okay?,’ Described as “Cooler, Older Cousin That Can Drink” to ‘Lucky’

Megan Moroney‘s “Emo Cowgirl” persona is on full display throughout her sophomore album, Am I Okay?, hitting all music streaming services today (July 12) via  Sony Music Nashville/Columbia Records after months and months of anticipation.

“After putting Lucky out and getting to a point where my fans and I know each other so much better, I felt like I could open up and discuss things I’ve never talked about in my music before,” Moroney shared in a statement. “Sometimes it almost feels like oversharing, but I feel like I have a responsibility to all the people who send me DMs or talk to me at shows and tell me how my songs helped them through a breakup or a bad time in their lives. If I can write about my heartbreak and make someone else feel like there’s a way out, then of course I’m going to keep doing that.”

With songs that detail the highest highs and the lowest lows about being a 20-something — from love to heartbreak to friendship and beyond — this record covers everything that country music lovers had been wanting to see from the Georgia native since her debut album, Lucky, hit music streaming services in May of 2023. With the talented singer/songwriter herself describing Am I Okay? as “Lucky’s cooler, older cousin that can drink” in an Instagram post, needless to say, Moroney delivered a much more mature, complex version of the project’s predecessor.

As one can assume, fans took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to rave about the project:

Megan Moroney’s new album is TOP TIER 💙💙💙

Ahead of the release of Am I Okay?, Moroney released five of its tracks to the public: “No Caller ID,” “Man on the Moon,” “28th of June,” “Indifferent” and “Hell of a Show.” With nine new tunes gracing the ears of country music lovers all across the globe today — “Am I Okay?,” “Third Time’s the Charm,” “Noah,” “Miss Universe,” “Mama I Lied,” “I Know You,” “The Girls,” “Heaven By Noon” and “Hope You’re Happy” — each and every song on Am I Okay? is equally as spectacular as its counterpart (without being too similar, of course), ultimately contributing to the overall diversity of the record.

To top everything off and give listeners an inside look, the “Emo Cowgirl” took to Instagram just a few hours before the release of Am I Okay? to share some words of wisdom — as well as the history of the album itself — “before you listen.” Needless to say, Moroney is extremeley passionate about this project:

“There’s love and heartbreak and strength and loss and friendship and I hope these songs find a home with you. From the day I released Lucky, I was told over and over my sophomore album would be the hardest to write. I thought that might be true until I did what I’ve always done… I felt deeply and unapologetically and wrote songs when my heart needed it,” she prefaced, prior to delving into the details.

“During a crazy touring schedule, on 14 different occasions, I sat down and impulsively wrote exactly how I was feeling, whether it was right or wrong,” she continued. “Am I Okay? feels more honest and vulnerable than anything I’ve released, it’s because you guys have made me feel comfortable enough to do that. I can’t thank you enough for being on this journey with me, songwriting and making music really does light up my soul and I’m so grateful for each and every one of you.“

She concluded the message by thanking those who helped make Am I Okay? possible: “Thank you to my producer my co-writers, the musicians, my incredible team and everyone else involved in bringing this record to life so seamlessly. Simultaneously, Am I Okay? is where I’ve been, and where I want to go. By the time you get to the end of the album, a valid question would be, ‘OMG, is she okay?’ And I just want you to know that with you by my side, I’ll always be just fine.”

    Peytan Porter: “Oh hell yeah”
